This year, Fischer assigned Totems again with the conceptual design of their fair stands.
First step was the planning and concept for the world leading fair Bau 2017 in Munich.
From this concept the stands for ISH in Frankfurt and Fastener Fair in Stuttgart were derived (see pictures).
A project with lots of work and hours - but finally we love it. More about read here http://totems.com/bosch-automotive-electronics-trust-your-senses.html
Often people wonder why Totems is called Totems. Let us tell you the story behind our name.
A totem in its original meaning is a spirit being, sacred object, or symbol that serves as an emblem of a group of people, such as a family, clan, lineage, or tribe (source: Wikipedia). It is capable of expressing the internal nature of a subject. And this is in line with our daily business! We try to penetrate deep into the true characteristics and values of brands and companies, their identities and stories, to discover their innermost nature and translate it into an unique message. So that makes it quite logical, why Totems is called Totems and that for almost 20 years already, not?
Some interesting facts about totems:
- The word totem is of Native American origin
- The word is derived from the Algonquian word odoodem which means ‘family character’
- The totem may be regarded as a group symbol and as a protector of the members of the group
- Usually the totem is an animal or other natural figure that spiritually represents a group of related people
- The symbol of the totem may be tattooed on ones body, engraved on weapons, pictured in masks, or (among Native Americans) carved on totem poles
And some nice details about Totems:
- Totems has three founding fathers: Gerard de Gorter, Peter van Lier en Florian Gerlach
- Next year Totems celebrates its 20th birthday
- We are gathering the favourite ‘totems’ of all our colleagues; hold an eye on this site and our social media canals and get inspired!

If one stand shouldn't miss the most important textile fair it's the one of the STOLL AG.
The knitted ribbons pointed out the essential: "ready to knit" has not lost the actuality in Milan.
STOLL presented the new machine CMS ADF 16: new software and hardware embedded in a new stand design.
Guests and visitors confirm their conviction the way STOLL is going. We are really appreciated by the positive echo.
We love emotional architecture and immersive design, corkboards, home-made panna cotta and our daily cooking delights. We believe in the power of a great story to move an audience.

After studying Architecture at the University of Delft and a few years of working-experience with Rem Koolhaas and Peter Eisenman, Gerard decided to develop his ambition further in the field where Architecture & Communication could be combined. At Totems he is mostly involved in the advancement of the company, with his latest project being the set up of a new Totems office in Shanghai. He likes to learn and experience different cultures but also enjoys staying at his home near the beach.
Peter van Lier is a relentless conceptmaker. Always trying new angles to create concepts for architecture and communication, pushing the barriers of exhibition design and communication has become his second nature. His projects and creative direction have been trendsetting in the branch and created international success for Totems, establishing the agency as one of the top in Germany and the Netherlands.
Graduated at Rotterdam Willem de Kooning Academy as interior architect, Sabine is now a highly specialized exhibition designer. Her focussed work method has resulted in a great number of successful projects. This, combined with an outgoing character makes her a favorite for our clients to work with.
WIth more than twenty years of field experience as an architect and creative director, Uli knows everything there is to know about building amazing spatial experiences and awesome designs. He has won so many awards for his designs, that we seriously wonder how on earth he has stayed such a cool and down-to-earth guy. We believe it's his wonderful family, his love of the great outdoors and backpacking experiences combined with his one-of-a-kind humor.
